When billionaire Prince Faoud goes missing right after another playboy is found murdered at a posh Northern California resort, his friends Zia Jones and Juan Carlos Ramirez step up to find him. They follow a vague trail of clues while he enjoys captivity at the hands of a cabal of fanatical goddess worshippers...until he learns of their ultimate plans for him. Faoud finds love along the way with the woman charged to watch over him, but they'll have to escape with their lives if they want to have any sort of future at all.

Whereas the first in the trilogy "Nights at the Cuzco" was centered around the world famous acrobat, Zia Jones and set in Las Vegas, this second book meets up with Zia a year or so later and is set in a small town in Northern California. Zia is now married and, in actual fact, is on her honeymoon which becomes interrupted by the murder of a guest in the hotel in which she is staying and soon after by the disappearance of an ex-lover, the billionaire Prince Faoud. Zia and her new husband decide to become involved in solving the Prince's strange vanishing and make quite the sleuthing pair. Although some references are made to Zia's adventures as recorded in the first book, I found that with the new locale and Zia's new marital status, this book stands alone, the reading of the first book not a requirement to follow what's happening. In fact, in some ways this is more the Prince's story, whereas in the first book Zia was the main character. I really liked getting to know more about Prince Faoud and especially the burgeoning romance he becomes involved with under some rather extreme conditions which I'd rather not spoil. The book is a page turner and becomes more layered and complex as the plot unfolds and the characters reveal themselves under increasing levels of extreme stress and potential fatal danger. Having said that, I was surprised to find that at its core, it's really a love story. It's a testimony to the writer and to the fine writing that within the madness, the mayhem and the life-threatening peril, true love can still be found.

Nights in Captivity Kara Jorges 9781449961282 Books Reviews

Oh man, was this a great book. The string of events was unpredictable; characters were novel, to be envied, and fun; and I loved the fun twists, turns, and adventures from page one onward. One of the author's more playful novels, I think. I like how she takes these quirks of our society that are out there (but no one wants to admit) and then turns them into a modernday adventure. This novel had a Salem Witchcraft trial or Hester Prynn-like feel to it and clever antagonistic and protagonistic characters. Check it out!
