The Billionaire's Contract Bride Harlequin comics eBook Carol Marinelli, Yutta Narukami Reviews
this dud of a hero really had nothing nice EVER!!
Regarding our heroine being a beard for her gay buddy I've been a beard for my gay pals before, but after this miss-treatment by the beastly relative this would've been the one where I catch a taxi/uber and ditch the event, go hangout with other fun friends. Apparently her gay friend Aiden is her only friend...and she's a dancer??? She should be rolling in Wild Gay Parties and fun times, and not have to put up with Aiden's brother, a nasty piece of work.
Surely by the heroine's age & profession, she'd have had waay more experience and assertiveness dealing with entitled playboys, jerks, and everybody in general trying to take advantage of a pretty dancer. I would've loved to see that role-modeled.
The resolution was waaaay too quick and easy, completely unbelievably so. A few sentences from the gay brother magically fixes decades worth of mental hangups. The hero deserved to suffer much, much more.
WAYS THIS COULD HAVE BEEN MADE BETTER
Recut, re-edit a version #2.
The love scenes are very not-detailed, I'd like better role-modeling where the heroine & hero give more detail and actually demonstrate some sort of growing attachment towards each other. Also it's hard to tell if the heroine & hero was got "satisfaction"*.
Overall, it was impossible to see if the hero developed any attachment (however subtle) towards the heroine, he was pretty much an emotionally withdrawn, nasty a-hole throughout. I really didn't detect any attachment. (Note I'm very fond of a-holes on the surface, who very stealthily demonstrate they care big-time. Ex Karen Marie Moning's Jerricho Barrons.)
I would've like to have seen the hero been made to suffer a LOT for his complete emotional withdrawal throughout the book & a-holery, like after she makes her final grand gesture that she loves him & gives him the money back, a more realistic take would've been that he takes too long to pull his head out of his arse so then loses her.
I would like it role-modeled/demonstrated her rebuilding her life and moving on in an assertive (yet, of-course, heartbreaking) way. Then he has to suffer, watch & grow, while her and a new love have a great life....until tragedy strikes and he gets his second chance to really work hard & suffer at wooing her.
* (I think healthy-sex role-modeling is important, if our world is ashamed or afraid of healthy sex, then more people are vulnerable to getting exploited, guilted into submission, females pushed-down & enslaved because their social-groups consider sex & female bodies "bad", female children exploited to support their familes, women are used like rubber-dolls in rap-videos & rap-culture, etc.)
One of the worst heroes ever. How, what or why this stupid heroine falls for this piece of poo is beyond me. I guess it's a combination of chemical reaction and the mighty and manliness of the hero. eyes rollllll
Aiden has asked the h (I can't remember her name and all she really deserves is the moniker of lower case "h" anyway) to be his beard at a wedding. He's gay and doesn't want his family to know. His older brother, the H, shows up to sneer at everyone. After Aiden goes to bed drunk, the h has a one night stand with big bro, stupid girl, which confirms his belief she's a gold-digger. After sex, he tells her he just set her up to see how she felt about Aiden. Luckily it was great sex so it wasn't a total loss for her. Ugh, ugh, and yuck.
The H comes to her with a MOC in order to make his dying father happy. He knows she has a gambling problem from eavesdropping on her and Aiden. He's just full of manly vices hussy-shaming, eavesdropping, bribery. She doesn't really have the problem, it's her grandmother, but he won't listen. He even takes her to a casino to train her and test her reaction.
It is one nasty thing after another. Really not one nice thing to say. She agrees to a six month MOC more for loooovvvvveeee than for the money. Once again she tries to tell him it's granny, not her. He gets REALLY ugly then and says he doesn't care about either one of them; she just needs to live up to the bargain.
The MOC ceremony is blown when the dad goes into cardiac arrest. After the tiny h saves the dad's life, the hero tells her nice try for the money. I mean... come on!
The vitriol just goes on and on. Now that there's no need of a MOC AND after checking to see if she's stolen anything from the billionaire's mighty mansion, he drives her home where she tells him she loves him. Why do you love him, tiny, stupid h? He's mean, cruel, nasty, and vindictive, and those are his good points.
She gets pale and wan, yawn, and pays him back all the money. We think Aiden is going to give him a come to Jesus meeting and a smackdown, but little bro is only rolling his sleeves up to watch his afternoon soap. He does tell his brother that he's stupid. Gee willikers, that's all it takes. The jerk runs to the h's house where he confesses he has loved her all along. He has also known all along that she didn't have a gambling problem. We have now entered the Bobby Ewing dream scene part of the book. Huh?
Great book.
Once bitten, twice shy.
One bad experience in life can sour a person's attitude drastically. Lessons learned in such circumstances are very difficult to forget, but this is what is called " life happens" one becomes cautious , cynical , and evasive . But then one day, the right person comes along, and love transcends any obstacle it its path.
A beautiful book indeed.
Good old fashioned lust and greed. Pure romance CM style. Heroine weak and silly Hero an ass. This book had all the romance of a phone book.
